Thijs Broekhuizen
Thijs Broekhuizen is an Associate Professor at the Department of Innovation Management & Strategy and the director of the MScBA of the Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Groningen. He holds a Ph.D. degree (2006) from the same university. His main research interests are interdisciplinary and bridge the fields of innovation and marketing, and reside in Value Appropriation and Innovation Adoption & Diffusion.
His current research focuses on how firms can respond strategically in today’s turbulent industries characterized by the advent of new disruptive and digital technologies, digital platforms, and ecosystems. In doing so, he analyzes firms’ digital readiness and how firms can integrate and benefit from these technologies when upgrading or developing new business models.
He currently also holds a position as scientific director at the University of Groningen Business School and is responsible for the quality of all post-initial executive programs and degree programs taught at the Faculty of Economics and Business. He is the program director of the Executive MBA which consists of three tracks: Food & Retail, Health, and Energy transition.
He has served as an ad-hoc reviewer for many academic journals and is a frequent visitor to academic and non-academic conferences and symposia. He appears as moderator and workshop organizer and participates in regional studies like the State of the Northern Netherlands and the Digital Ecosystem of the North. Finally, he chairs the Northern Netherlands Innovation Monitor that invites - on an annual basis - more than 8000 SMEs to participate in the innovation monitor.
