Klaas Kruithof

Dr. Klaas Kruithof currently serves as Chief Technology Officer of AkzoNobel. He started his career at Akzo in 1984 in the Automotive OEM Coatings Research laboratories. After a series of international assignments of increasingly broad scope and responsibility he was appointed in 1994 as Research Coordinator for the Coatings Group and was actively involved in the technology integration of several acquisitions, including Nobel Industries (1994) and Courtaulds (1998). As R&D Manager Wood Coatings he built a European technology organization in the newly created AkzoNobel.  He served as R&D Director Industrial Coatings from 1998 until 2003 were he transferred the R&D organization from a regional to a global operation.
In 2003 he was appointed R&D Director of Automotive and Aerospace Coatings. In this position he realized major efficiency improvements by harmonization of the technology platforms and the digitization of color. From 2012 until his nomination as CTO in 2017 he served as Director RD&I for the Business Area Performance Coatings, a global role overseeing ~2500 researchers and technicians as part of a EUR 6bln business. In his current role Dr. Kruithof is responsible for (transformative) innovation in paints and coatings. This task includes the onboarding of new technologies in AkzoNobel which includes development of an innovative ecosystem with external partners.

Dr. Kruithof holds a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from Amsterdam University and B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Chemistry from Utrecht University in The Netherlands.
